In Japan, Indication of Household Goods Regulation Guideline was released due to cut off indoor air pollution, formaldehyde, in summer 2003. The guideline includes kitchen and bathroom. Over a year, domestic manufactures have changed the materials, however import manufactures had the effects of the new restrictions for their sales.

Among the general contractors and the developers in Japanese kitchen market started new movement and recognition of the regulation. Imported kitchens need to cleare the restriction to sell. Some of the imported manufactures started appearing the regulation latter of the year. Although it is the part of the movement, the aspect of the international standard has started to change.

We need to be aware of materials more than its price. Of course, price is one of the key factors of purchase for some people. We are not saying not to buy cheap ones, just be aware of the effects of the materials to your body.

Although we don’t export our furniture to Japan at the moment, we always want to create our furniture as enviroment friendly as possible. Afterall, all furniture was made from solid wood and natural finish. There is no reason we can’t do that again.

I was reading papers as usual Sunday afternoon event and know there aren’t such good news to be focused in media nowadays. This article, “Public pays to let stars’ forests rot” by Jeremy Watson, grabbed my attention.

To sum up the article, trees are planted in the Caithness, north of Scotland with taxpayers’ money to make profits for private owners and wealthy celebrities in the 1980s for tax purpose until the government stopped the loophole. More than 67,000 hectares were planted, an area more than twice the size of Edinburgh. After 25 years later, the trees are ruined thousands of acres of Scottish landscape and are being cut down and left to rot which is paid with public funds.

I think the principal for planting trees in rural area was not bad. It will sustain the cycle which we need, eg. increasing employment, more timbers and good for enviroment. Unfortunately the system was abused for wealthy investors’ tax purpose.

This is the result of the people abused the system and always the local people suffer. It is very shame to let it happen. Maybe nobody would think this will happen at that time. I don’t know. But as we donate, we feel that we are responsible to know the organisation we donate and what they do by using the money. We would like to donote for everybody’s future benefits, not for the organisation’s.

As always, we picked organic oil to finish which is food safe and suitable for a child.

We were asked to create a shelf which will be fitted nicely in a client’s bathroom space.

Scottish larch was chosen for material of the shelf. Larch wood is an attractive warm reddish brown or terra cotta colour with gold streaks, which fades to silver after prolonged exposure to sunlight.

The shelf was hand oiled finish.
Size H: 805 mm D: 290 mm W: 740 mm

This is a great example of commissioned furniture. It doesn’t need to be big, small, complicated or simple design. They are all acceptable. Important thing is you want it your way and we can help you. Please don’t hesitate to ask us.
